The Projects

North Channel Wind is off the east coast of Northern Ireland. The projects, (North Channel Wind 1 & 2), will be located between 9 and 25 km from shore in approximately 120m of water depth.

North Channel Wind is at the Scoping stage of development. This gives us the opportunity to consult with local communities and wider stakeholders during the design stage in order to develop the most suitable and appropriate proposals possible. In this way we are confident that the project can harness the immense power of offshore wind whilst achieving a balance in terms of marine use, coastlines and seascape.

We are currently planning surveys to inform the final project design and assess potential impacts. The size and layout of the project will evolve as the consultation and environmental assessment process progresses.

NORTH CHANNEL WIND 1

Location
  • Off the east coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland
Distance from Shore
  • The proposed turbines are between 9 and 25 km (nearest to furthest) from shore
Development stage
  • Site characterisation and optimisation
  • Environmental scoping
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Long-lead environmental surveys, including digital aerial surveys, engineering surveys, including wind and resource assessment.
  • Initial public consultation (2023)
Proposed turbine heights
  • Up to 325m tip height
Output and capacity to power
  • 1 GW (1000 MW)
Legend
  • Red dashed area: Proposed turbine array area
  • Black dashed area: Proposed export cable corridor area of search
NCW 1 RLB ECC Ao S Lat Long V1

NCW 1 is at the site characterization and optimisation stage, the size of the project will of course change over time in response to new information and as a result of consultation. Therefore it may increase or decrease in size from this initial estimate. The site boundary is preliminary.

NCW 2 RLB ECC Ao S Lat Long V1

NORTH CHANNEL WIND 2

Location
  • Off the east coast of County Antrim and north coast of County Down, Northern Ireland
Distance from Shore
  • The proposed turbines are between 15 and 24 km (nearest to furthest) from shore
Development stage
  • Site characterisation and optimisation
  • Environmental scoping
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Long-lead environmental surveys, including digital aerial surveys, engineering surveys, including wind and resource assessment.
  • Initial public consultation (2023)
Proposed turbine heights
  • Up to 325m tip height
Output and capacity to power
  • 420 MW
Legend
  • Red dashed area: Proposed turbine array area
  • Black dashed area: Proposed export cable corridor area of search

NCW 2 is at the site characterization and optimisation stage, the size of the project will of course change over time in response to new information and as a result of consultation. Therefore it may increase or decrease in size from this initial estimate. The site boundary is preliminary.
