Floating wind turbines: the next generation of renewables technologies takes Northern Ireland closer to self-sufficiency.
North Channel Wind 1 and 2 are two prospective floating offshore wind farms being investigated by SBM Offshore for sites between 10-25km from the coast of Northern Ireland. Together they represent one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in Northern Ireland this decade and would be the largest renewable energy generator in Northern Ireland.
With the potential to generate enough locally produced electricity to power the equivalent of almost 500,000 homes, North Channel Wind 1 and 2 will support the delivery of Northern Ireland’s renewable energy targets and transition to a net zero carbon economy. It will help to reduce Northern Ireland’s reliance on imported energy and improve security of supply.
