To mark International Women’s Day 2023, North Channel Wind team members attended the first ever female-only event for women in the renewable energy sector.
Organised by Renewable NI and sponsored by Shoosmiths, the aim of the event was to recognise and celebrate the contribution women make to this industry and try to encourage more females to contribute to energy events and forums.
Niamh Kenny, Founder and MD of NMK Renewables, the company spearheading the North Channel Wind floating offshore wind project, was a member of the all-female panel, alongside BBC Agriculture and Environment Correspondent Louise Cullen, ABO Wind’s Tamasin Fraser, Energia Group’s Sara Tinsley and panel chair Ruth Forbes of Shoosmiths.
Niamh welcomed the opportunity to speak to delegates about her own personal journey and career trajectory to date.
“While progress is being achieved, the pace of change is still too slow and we are a long way off achieving true gender parity within the renewables sector.
“This is why it was such an honour to celebrate International Women’s Day with so many vibrant, accomplished women who are working hard to change the face of our industry and commit to striving for even more change.
“I’m proud that within the North Channel Wind team, a number of our most senior positions are occupied by women, who also attended the conference and welcomed the opportunity to discuss the issues affecting women in renewables such as imposter syndrome and a lack of diversity
“Thanks to Renewable NI for hosting the event and for affording us the opportunity to engage and network with so many trusted partners and colleagues.”
